Part I

Due to the controversy that has raged over the last two thousand years concerning the "virgin birth" of Jesus Christ, I feel it necessary, and timely, to address this most important subject. Why? Because the two founding principles on which Christianity is based ˆthe virgin birth, and resurrection of Jesus Christˆ are either true, or millions of His followers have been greatly deceived.

In this two part dissertation I want to cover two aspects of Jesus Christ. In Part I, we will deal with His virgin birth, and show biblically, medically and scientifically how he could have been born of a virgin. In Part II, we will show how he could be a man and yet still be God's Son. I pray this will be an eye opener for our Jewish and Arab friends and help bridge the gap that has separated us for centuries. I pray also that the Church will use this information as a witnessing tool to lead many to salvation in our Lord Jesus Christ.

What is DNA?

As we begin Part I, we need to describe what DNA is. According to Webster's Dictionary, DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is "...an essential component of all living matter and a basic material in the chromosomes of the cell nucleus: it contains the genetic code and transmits the hereditary pattern." It is my understanding that our genes (and there are thousands of them) create the chromosomes. There are 46 sets of chromosomes in the human body, arranged in 23 pairs, representing sections of data received from our parents. Each parent contributes one chromosome each that combine in the embryo to make a set; therefore, our genetic message comes equally from each parent. It all has to do with the blood. We will cover this in more detail as we go along.

In relationship to DNA, human development begins when a male gamete (sperm) penetrates a female gamete (ovum), which becomes a zygote (a cell formed by the union of male and female gametes). Let me expand on this a little further. "Gamete," in the Greek, means a wife; "gamein," means to marry. In the case of DNA it is "a reproductive cell that is haploid (having the full number of chromosomes normally occurring in the mature germ cell) and can unite with another gamete to form the cell (zygote) that develops into a new individual." (Webster's Dictionary) In other words, the two gametes, male and female cells, marry. That is why a man and a man, or a woman and a woman cannot have children. It was not God's design. He established the principle of reproduction in the man and woman's blood systems. Each gamete (male sperm) contains more than 1 billion coded genetic messages. So, every baby that has been, or will be born, with the exception of  Jesus Christ, has received his or her blood, and genetics, from an original human source, Adam and Eve. This brings us to the core message in Part I of our dissertation.

The First Perfect Man and His DNA

The Bible says in Genesis 2:7 "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." God created Adam as a perfect human being, with a perfect body, but there was no life in him until God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, then he came alive. The Bible says in Leviticus 17:11 "For the life of the flesh is in the blood...". Life is "in the blood" and all life comes from God.

Adam's DNA was in his blood, and when God breathed into Adam, everything in his blood came to life. The Bible is very clear on this.

"The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life." Job 33:4.

"It is the spirit that quickeneth (gives life)..." John 6:63 [Emphasis mine].

Since God is life and the Holy Spirit gives life, when God breathed the breath of life into Adam, the Spirit of God entered him, and working in his bloodstream, brought life. Adam was now alive and in blood covenant oneness with God. How long Adam lived in this state of perfection is not recorded in scripture. What we are told is that God had instructed him to not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for in so doing he would die. "And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." Adam disobeyed God by eating of the fruit of the tree. "And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat." In eating, Adam and Eve were now separated from God spiritually, plus, their bodies began to die.

A friend of mine asked me the question, "How did sin enter into Adam and Eve?" I personally believe that the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil had some type chemical substance in it, that when eaten, and injested into the stomach, passed through the stomach lining into the blood system, thus causing physical death; the death not being instant, but a death that caused the body to begin to decay and die over a period of time. A Research Immunologist, upon reading some of my dissertation on the DNA of Jesus Christ, said that there is a possibility that Adam injested a "retro virus" which could be absorbed through the stomach into the blood and the DNA. I looked up the meaning of "retro virus" and was quite astonished at what I found. The word "retro" means "backward, back, behind,, and the basic meaning of "virus" is guess what? It is "snake venom." Who deceived Eve? It was the Serpent. In every sense, both spiritually and physically, Adam and Eve  were bitten by the Serpent. They ate of the forbidden fruit, and violated God's Word. Both brought death, and DNA contamination. They truly moved backward.

In the 1980s a scientist by the name of Allan Wilson did a study comparison on the male DNA to see if he could track the paternal link to an ultimate source. Mark Siljander, in his book "Five Bridges of Unity," states that Dr. Allen, along with other scientists, compared the Y chromosomes of 1,062 men from every part of the world. It turns out that all men share a single male ancestor, a . . . Y Chromosomal Adam. Dr. Wilson also did a study on the "mitochondrial" (rodlike structures found in the cytoplasm of most cells and serving as a center of intracellular enzyme activity) DNA of 135 women from all around the world . . . he arrived at a startling conclusion: Through our maternal line we all share the same common ancestor . . . known as ŒMitochondrial Eve. In other words, we all have descended from Adam and Eve.

Because of disobedience to God's Word, and eating of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, the sin nature entered Adam and Eve's blood system; therefore, every child that would be born on this earth would be from the seed of Adam and would be born with that same sin nature in the blood, not having the life of God flowing through it. All of humanity is related by blood to Adam and Eve. The Bible says,

"And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth . . . ." Acts 17:26.

"For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive." I Corinthians 15:21,22.

"Therefore as by the offense of one (Adam) judgment came upon all men to condemnation;...

For as by one man‚s disobedience many were made sinners,..." Romans 5:18,19. [Emphasis mine].

"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23.

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23.

A very important point to remember as we progress in our study is that Adam's flesh was not sinful. It was his soul (mind) that caused him to sin, by yielding to his senses (what he saw, heard, touched, smelled, and tasted) he ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. His body was just the instrument to bring it all about.

The Need For A Virgin Birth

This brings us to the issue of how Jesus Christ could be a descendant of Adam and yet remain a sinless man. He would take on a human body, but His blood would be divine, not from Adam. Since sin had affected the blood of all men, it was necessary that Jesus be born of a Jewish virgin without inheriting Adam's blood, yet having the body of a man. Let us examine this.

In Genesis 1:28 God commands Adam and Eve to "be fruitful and multiply . . . ." In other words, populate the earth. In scientist Kelly Hollowell's article Scientific Integrity and the Gospel of Christ; WorldNetDaily, April 10, 2004, she says:

According to the Bible and science, the power to create life resides in the "seed" or sperm of man. The sperm fertilizes the egg and creates a new life. Scientifically speaking, the ability to reproduce is characterized by replication of the genetic code, which is how our heredity is passed down from generation to generation. Therefore, since we are all descendant from Adam, his sin nature would be passed to all men based on the principle of heredity.

This brings us to the "seed" factor in Genesis 3:15.

"And I (God) will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed . . . ."

This is the first scripture regarding a coming Messiah, "the seed of the woman" who would defeat Satan. Knowing that a woman does not produce seed, this prophecy speaks of a future descendant of Eve who would not have a human father, but would be conceived by a supernatural act of the Holy Spirit of God. This is prophesied in Isaiah 7:14. "Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." Isaiah 9:6 tells us that this virgin's son will also be God. "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." These two prophecies were fulfilled about 700 years later by a little Jewish virgin girl named Mary.

And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a virgin...and the virgins name was Mary. And the angel said unto her,...behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: . . . And the angel answered and said unto her, "The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. Luke 1:26, 27, 30-32, 35.

Jesus Christ would not have an earthly father. He would not come from the "seed" of Adam, having Adam's sin nature, but from the "seed" of God.

Jesus's DNA Was Divine

In the case of the Lord Jesus Christ, there was no human male gamete (sperm) that penetrated the gamete (ovum) of Mary, fertilizing the egg, and then passing from the fallopian tube into the uterus and attaching itself in order to become a fetus. It was the Holy Spirit that came upon the Jewish virgin Mary and implanted the holy "seed" of Jesus in her "womb" supernaturally. This in itself is miraculous because normal conception takes place in the fallopian tube, not in the womb. This is confirmed again in the Bible in Luke 2:21. "And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb."

A second, and most vital point is this. "The blood which flows in an unborn babe's arteries and veins is not derived from the mother but is produced within the body of the fetus. Yet it is only after the sperm has entered the ovum and the foetus begins to develop that blood appears." (The Chemistry of the Blood, p.30, M.R. DeHaan M.D.) Medical science has shown that none of the mother's blood is given to a developing embryo. She supplies the nutrients for developing the baby, but no blood ever passes from the mother to the child. In doctor M.R. DeHaan's book The Chemistry of the Blood, page 32, he quotes from the Nurse's Handbook of Obstetrics by Louise Zabriskie, R.N., fifth Edition, pages 75 and 82.

When the circulation of the blood begins in the embryo, it remains separate and distinct from that of the mother. All food and waste material which are interchanged between the embryo and the mother must pass through the blood vessel walls from one circulation to the other. . . . The fetus receives its nourishment and oxygen from the mother's blood into its own through the medium of the placenta. The foetal heart pumps blood through the arteries of the umbilical cord into the placental vessels, which, looping in and out of the uterine tissue and lying in close contact with the uterine vessels, permit a diffusion, through their walls, of waste products from child to mother and of nourishment and oxygen from mother to child. As has been said, this interchange is effected by the process of osmosis, and there is no direct mingling of the two blood currents. In other words, no maternal blood actually flows to the foetus, nor is there any direct foetal blood flow to the mother.

Mary supplied the womb for Jesus Christ, and nourished His body, but her sin blood (since she was from the seed of Adam) was not passed on to Him. It was not the sperm of a man, but the Holy Spirit of God who supplied the "seed" for Jesus‚ conception, and the divine blood for His body. God provided a way for Jesus to have a human body, but His blood came from God. He was the God-Man. He was begotten of God. "Begotten" does not mean that God had a consort (a female) in order to produce a Son. It was a supernatural act of the Holy Spirit, as we said before.

And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 1:14.

Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith,...a body thou hast prepared me. Hebrews 10:5.

Jesus took on a human body that God had prepared for Him, yet He was still divine. His body was the vessel used by God to carry the precious, sinless life giving blood that would redeem fallen man. He was not the son of an earthly father. That is why Jesus called God "His Father." At age 12, when He was found on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem by His parents after they realized that He was missing from their company as they were leaving to return home, He said to them Wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business? Luke 2:49. And in Matthew 7:21 He says Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. There is an interesting scripture in the book of Hebrews that defines even more Jesus' human-divine nature.

Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. Hebrews 2:14, 15.

The Greek word for "partakers" is koinoneho, which means "to fully partake." In other words, it means that all of Adam's descendants are of both his flesh and his blood. The words "took part," as applying to Jesus Christ, is the Greek word "metecho" which means "to take part but not all." Jesus took on the flesh part of Adam, but not the blood. His blood was divine.

Jesus Christ was "of the seed of David" according to Romans 1:3, 4. Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; and declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. Jesus' earthly lineage came through the tribe of Judah, and the kingly lineage of David (both Joseph and Mary were descendants of King David: Joseph was from Solomon's line, and Mary from Nathan's line). Jesus Christ was a perfect human being in His fleshly body, with pure, divine, sinless blood running through His veins, blood that would defeat Satan, redeem sinful man, and once again fill man with the life of God, by the power and breath of the Holy Spirit.

It is utterly amazing how an understanding of genetic technology was put in the Bible thousands of years before man discovered it. What an awesome God we serve! As Kelly Hollowell said, Who among us today could write a story‚ on the creation and sin nature of man as well as a plan for salvation consistent with scientific theories we won‚t discover for thousands of years?

Since God is the Creator of everything, it was no problem for Him to devise a plan whereby God, the Son, could be born of a virgin and still be God. Therefore, those who have accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord have been "born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the Word of God, which liveth and abideth forever." I Peter 1:23. Although we are from Adam's seed, we have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ. We are His spiritual offspring through blood covenant, and therefore, heirs and joint heirs with Christ.

PART II: THE DNA OF JESUS CHRIST

Is Jesus Christ God‚s Son?

We have covered the virgin birth of Jesus Christ, but I want to take it a step further in showing proof that Jesus Christ is God's Son, and not just a prophet or a good man. We will do this by explaining the meaning of the words "begat" and "begotten" as used in the Bible.

When we look at the genealogies in both the Old and New Testaments we find the word "begat" used in describing the offspring of the person named before. For example, in Genesis 5:3,6 it says "Adam...begat Seth," "Seth begat Enos" and so on through the entire chapter. In Matthew, chapter 1, we see the same thing. "Abraham begat Isaac...Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judah." This goes through verse 16 where something changes. Notice what it says. And Jacob (not Isaac's Jacob) begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. Did you notice that Joseph did not "beget" Jesus, but He was "born" of Mary? Let me explain.

The similarity of the words "begot" or "begotten" in the Semitic languages will give us the key that will unlock this mystery as to whether Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

"Begot" or "begotten" in the Semitic and Greek languages.

Arabic: youlad

Aramaic: yalad, or awled & ettled

Hebrew: yalad

Greek: gennao

Each one of the above words used in the Bible, and the Koran, for "begot" or "begotten"are masculine causative verbs, with the exception of the Aramaic word "ettled," which is feminine passive. All the words but "ettled" mean "to make happen naturally or biologically. Mark Siljander, in his Five Bridges of Unity, states "The Hebrew actually denotes the male sexual organ. The Greeks translated both Aramaic words "awled" and "ettled" interchangeably as one Greek word "gennao." The problem arises when describing the birth of Jesus using gennao...the birth of Jesus (Isa in the Koran) would then be seen as causative, i.e., conceived biologically. Worse yet, using this term in the masculine sense depicts Jesus‚ birth as occurring through a divine male sexual act.

The only exception to this universal use of begot‚ is in the original Aramaic version, when referring to the conception of Jesus Christ. The Gospel establishes the genealogy of Jesus by an extensive listing of who was begotten by whom, from Abraham all the way to Joseph, the husband of Mary, (Matthew 1:1-16). However, the Aramaic word changes from Œawled‚ (male descendent, conceived through a male) to ettled‚ (female descendent, supernaturally conceived through a female), when the lineage describes the birth of Jesus. This word literally means he who is from her or, in context, Jesus that is from Mary. This draws a profound distinction between the awled, begotten‚ physically by a man‚ with ettled‚ begotten‚ supernaturally by a woman. Ettled is a passive feminine term suggesting that a man is not required for the conception process, implying a supernatural birth, or begot."

As we said earlier, Jesus was not conceived by a human father, but by the Holy Spirit of God Himself, in the womb of Mary. In the Gospel of John, chapter 1, verse 14, we see four profound truths.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

First, it says "...the Word was made flesh," but who, or what, is the Word? In John 1:1 it says In the beginning (before all time) was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (Emphasis mine.) Did you get that? The Word was with God, and yet was God. How can God be with God and still be God? It is God the Son that is spoken of here. Secondly, it says "..the Word was made flesh." In other words, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, became a man. It is important to notice that the Word was "...made flesh." God prepared a body for Him as it says in Hebrews 10:5 "...a body hast thou prepared for me." Jesus Christ was begotten by God, not by man. It was supernatural. The Holy Spirit (Ruach Kodesh in Hebrew, Rohch Allah in Qur'anic Arabic) of God brought this about. In Matthew 1:18 it tells us that Mary ...was found with child of the Holy Ghost. This is reinforced in Luke 1:35 where the angel Gabriel tells Mary The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. The Qur'an also says that the conception of Jesus Christ will be supernaturally brought about by the Rohch Allah (Holy Spirit). See Suras 3:47, 3:59, 5:110, 19:20+, and 21:91. Therefore the Bible and the Qur'an both agree on this. Thirdly, God the Son came, and "...dwelt among us." God Himself walked and lived among men. He ate, drank, slept with, and brought salvation to His own creation. And fourth, He was the glory of God, walking on this earth, healing the sick, casting out devils, walking on water, raising the  dead, exhibiting the power that He used to create the universe and all that is in it. He was full of "grace and truth." There was no sin, lies, or deception in Him. Yes! Jesus Christ was God the Son, come in the flesh, and flowing through His veins was the pure, sinless blood that would redeem fallen, sinful man. He was the embodiment of God on earth.

In conclusion, I pray these teachings have answered the question of how Jesus Christ could be the Son of God, and yet become a man. And if you don't know Him as Savior and Lord, I pray that you will confess you are a sinner, ask His forgiveness, and ask Him to save you and give you eternal life. May God's richest blessings be yours!
